Letting go

Why does letting go hurt so much?

  1. Because you are leaving something behind. You are leaving everything that it was and everything it could've been behind. It's like a child taking its first steps by itself, staggering along and falling over and struggling to get back up again and to keep staggering along.

  2. Dunno. Maybe it's like surgery without anaesthetic, aye?

  3. Hmm...

@Vincent: I agree. Christ followers tend to try to surrender their 'crowns' to God when letting go. Obviously we don't surrender perfectly, but I've always wondered why surrendering hurts - despite the fact that we are surrendering to a mighty, loving, & just God. I wonder if pain comes normally in that 'perfect' surrender; or whether it hurts because we keep taking back what we surrender. But I guess even Jesus went through a mountain of pain in His perfect surrender to God's will - eg in the garden of gethsemane or even death on a cross (with limited anaesthetic). So, perhaps, hurt occurs no matter if we surrender or not?

    I like ur analogy Jase!
